Since their creation in 2013 by Construction21, the Green Solutions Awards draw more candidates every year with the 2017 edition counting 150 contestants.

Originally, the contest promoted European projects only, but from  2015 and COP21, other countries joined the competition. This year, contestants come from 19 different countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Burundi, China, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Senegal, Spain, Tanzania, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.
