Anneli Pauli

Anneli Pauli is Professor of Practice (Global Grand Challenges) at the University of Helsinki, the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR). Anneli Pauli has extensive national and international experience in leading science, research, innovation and university policies. Before her current position, for 22 years Anneli Pauli held several key senior management positions.

In the European Commission she worked as a Deputy Director- General both at DG “Research and Innovation” and in Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), and as a Senior Advisor to the Director General in Innovation and Competitiveness issues at DG Climate Action. In the Academy of Finland Anneli Pauli worked as the Secretary General at the Research Council for Biosciences and Environment, and as the Vice-President responsible for science policies, including international co-operation. At Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) she worked as Rector, and at Heureka Science Centre as Director. Earlier in her career she worked for instance as a research manager in the Nessling Foundation, a senior advisor at the Ministry of the Environment and a researcher in the University of Helsinki and the Marine Research Institute. Anneli Pauli has had numerous positions of trust in different high-level groups and boards at an international, EU and national level.

Anneli Pauli holds a PhD (limnology, microbiology) from the University of Helsinki. She has an Adjunct Professorship and the title of Doctor of Science in Technology, h.c. at the Aalto University.  She is a Personal Member of the Finnish Climate Leadership Coalition CLC.
