ComActivate AfterLIFE Plan: Securing the legacy of energy sufficiency beyond the project

The ComActivate AfterLIFE Plan sets out how the project's tools, knowledge and experience can be sustained, shared and replicated to support energy-poor communities living in multi-family apartment buildings across Central and Eastern Europe.

Energy poverty in multi-family apartment buildings (MFABs) requires solutions that go beyond individual building renovations. Communities need access to reliable advice, opportunities to improve energy efficiency and clean energy production, and support to make lasting changes at neighbourhood level. Through its work in Bulgaria, Hungary and Lithuania, ComActivate has developed and tested approaches to address these challenges, including Resource Centres and Neighbourhood Energy Sufficiency Roadmaps (NESRs).

The AfterLIFE Plan explores how ComActivate’s results can be used, maintained and built upon after the project ends. Drawing on the project’s sustainability, exploitation and replication strategy and reflections from project partners, it looks at how the knowledge, tools and approaches developed throughout the project can support further action by municipalities, policymakers and other stakeholders.

The plan focuses on several key areas:

  • Institutional sustainability: How resource centres and their support services can continue operating and supporting vulnerable communities.
  • Financial sustainability: Opportunities to secure the resources needed to maintain project results and support their continued implementation.
  • Exploitation and replication: How the project’s outputs, tools and lessons can inform further research, new initiatives and similar activities in other regions.
  • Continued dissemination: How project knowledge and materials can remain accessible and reach relevant stakeholders beyond the project’s lifetime.

Drawing on experience from the pilot municipalities and lessons learned throughout the project, the AfterLIFE Plan identifies opportunities for stakeholders to take ComActivate’s work forward, adapt its approaches to different contexts and build on the foundations already established.
